Sophia's Spring Flatwoods Plum
Our southern plums are some of our showiest flowering native trees and we have selected a specimen of the Flatwoods Plum, Prunus umbellata, that is a heavy bloomer. Blooming in late March, this tree is an important source for many pollinators. The pure white blossoms contrast nicely against its dark brown bark. Its fruit are relished by several songbirds and small mammals. Also has shown a nice dark orange to red fall color.
