Acer campestre 'Panacek'

Metro Gold® Hedge Maple

Category: Deciduous, Shade Tree | Size: Medium | Hardiness Zones: 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 | Fall Color: Yellow | Growth Rate: Slow | Adaptability: Alkaline Soil Tolerant

Nurseryman/Landscaper, Herman Panacek, selected Metro Gold® from a block of Hedge Maple seedlings. Acer campestre is known as an urban tolerant plant adaptive to compacted soils and droughty conditions. Normally Hedge Maples are somewhat shrubby maples, often sheared into deciduous hedges, topping out at 12-20' tall. Metro Gold® makes a better tree than most. It has good bone structure, suitable for streetscapes and narrow sites. Seed production is reportedly lighter than normal and that makes it easier to enjoy the yellow fall color of the round lobed leaves.
